Abstract:

Homosalate (HMS) is widely used as the UVB-filter with the disadvantage of poor water solubility and low photostability. In this study, the inclusion complex of HMS with 2-hydroxypr opyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) was prepared by the freeze-drying method. The UV-Vis study indicated that HMS can form an inclusion complex with HP-β-CD in a stoichiometric ratio of 1:2. Thermogravimetric (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) also demonstrated that HMS was successfully encapsulated by HP-β-CD. Meanwhile, the water solubility and thermal stability of HMS was obviously improved after the formation of the inclusion complex. Furthermore, the photolysis ratio of the HMS-HP-β-CD inclusion complex decreased from 21.4 % to 7.9 %.
