Growth and morphology peculiarities of Li2B4O7:Ln3+ single crystals

Li2B4O7:Eu, Tm, Ce single crystals up to 40 mm in diameter and more than 30 mm in length were grown by Czochralski method at the pulling rates of 0.5 to 1.0 mm/h and rotation ones of 10 to 18 rot/min in a furnace with resistance heating as well as in a SKIF-5 unit with induction heating under programmed variation of the controlled parameter, namely, temperature or power. Using X-ray structure analysis and chemical etching, the activation with 0.07 % (mass.) Ln3+ has been shown no deteriorate appreciably the crystal quality.
